Known as the Manchester of South India, Coimbatore is famous for producing cotton saris of the highest calibre. Skilled weavers have been spinning and embroidering for over two hundred years, creating radiant saris that are representatives of an ancient culture.
Hand woven from the purest cotton, the Coimbatore cotton saris are translucent, delicate and graceful. It is not unusual to glimpse the glitter of zari or resham butta covering the fabric. These subtle embellishments only serve to accentuate the more elaborate leaf motifs usually embroidered on the borders and pallu of the sari. They are usually woven in the typical traditional colour schemes- red and gold, black and white, and shades of blue. Simple and traditional, these saris are classics- perfect for auspicious occasions, ceremonies and formal functions.
