Till a few years ago, I did not know that a wedding can be at 10 in the morning. Yes, Jains, Sikhs, Gujaratis, Maharashtrians, South Indians and many other communities have their main wedding ceremonies during the day. What a shock for a thoroughbred Punjabi like me who had always thought that the “pheras” are after the sunset.

So which sari does one wear for a day wedding? A good choice is a Chanderi silk sari or a light Mysore silk with a border. The colours have to be beige, pale blues or pinks or cream with gold work. The idea of a light colour sari is that one can wear a heavy piece of jewellery to set off the attire.

The jewellery should match the work on the sari... silver zari goes well with diamonds or pearls. A jadau necklace and kangans go well with gold embroidery.

Also colourful precious stones, rubies & emeralds and jhumkas (earrings) add colour to any sari.

Elegance is key to dressing for day weddings.
